|Dixon Steele (1874 - 1919)|
Born in Hollywood, Steele came to NYC in 1897 to study law enforcement. Instead of becoming a police officer, Steele joined the U.S. Navy. After the Slocum fire, Steele renewed his interest in law enforcement and opened a private investigation agency. He was shot to death by a man he was shadowing while on a divorce case.
